'Tis the season for reflection - December newsletter (edition 20)

2013. Thirteen: Lucky for some, as the saying goes. Contrary to Western superstition, the number 13 is not considered inauspicious in Chinese culture. This is manifested through a promising year for Shanghai with its Free Trade Zone creating new opportunities for foreign investments and Hong Kong's Trust law rendering the dynamic metropolis an attractive trust jurisdiction for the global wealth management industry.

Let's not leave good fortune in the hands of superstition though. Just ask Luxembourg which implemented its AIFMD Law on no less than... July 13th.

In this newsletter, spotlights are shed on snow-capped Switzerland as we examine the benefits of relocation, and the shores of the Seychelles are put forward as a prime option for setting up a foundation.

There have been a few twists and turns concerning international tax-planning with possible new measures for the Netherlands and the UAE, in addition to the UK boosting its reputation as a popular holding company jurisdiction.

With a new acquisition in China, and new premises in New York, Cyprus, Malta and the UAE in 2013, Vistra has striven to expand (against the odd number) through hard work and determination from our teams worldwide.

I do hope you enjoy the 20th edition of our newsletter. I wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2014.
