Private Funds CFO is an independent service that provides information for financial, operational and legal professionals in private equity firms. It publishes a magazine ten times a year, including a biannual survey on fees and expenses.

The tenth edition of the Private Funds CFO: Fees & Expenses Survey is published in association with Troutman Pepper, Withum and Vistra. It explores the changing landscape of fees and expenses within the US private funds sector, the world’s largest private funds market.

This year’s survey report makes clear that the trend towards greater transparency and disclosure is placing new and evolving pressures on private funds firms. The trend is being driven by regulators looking to impose more rules — sometimes unsuccessfully, as in the case of a recently struck-down SEC proposal — and by increasingly exacting investors, who are demanding information on fees, expenses and more.

This year’s keynote interview is from Vistra’s Rosemary McCollin (see page 32 of the report). She discusses the reasons for outsourcing’s growing popularity, along with related best practices and trends. Her analysis covers internal fee reviews, charging for insourced services, who really bears the cost of outsourced services, “solution fit” as a criterion for provider selection and more.
