Accounts Preparer

This role is located in Jersey, Channel Islands.


Key Responsibilities

  • Completion/ checking of bookkeeping entries as required for a portfolio of client entities.
  • Preparation of Financial Statements in agreed format, and ad hoc accounting schedules as required from time to time.
  • Complete all required balance sheet reconciliation as required including bank reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations and checks.
  • Ensure accuracy of information supplied and that it is prepared within deadlines.
  • Liaise with file handlers and other accountants on information supplied to and from them.
  • Ensure that all accounting records are properly maintained and up to date.
  • Manage a small portfolio of clients for production of annual accounts to review stage with full working papers and supporting documentation.
  • Take responsibility for time management on clients to ensure budgets are adhered to as set by accounts managers or file handlers, and to highlight issues with work or time deadlines where there are potential overruns.

Qualifications and other requirements

  • A solid understanding of typical private client trust and company structures and relevant accounting requirements
  • Deep knowledge of all accounting principles including  income and Capital treatment for trust structures; foreign exchange; investment accounting for bonds, equities and off market assets; company dividends and trust distributions; inter entity loans; and depreciation / amortisation and accruals / prepayments
  • Strong excel skills (for financial statement production)
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to use initiative
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Have an efficient and effective approach to producing work to agreed targets and deadlines
  • Ability to provide 1st review of other team members’ work (no line management or supervision)
  • Ability to produce organised well referenced files and working papers to best practice standards
  • Be professional, ethical and have respect for others at all times
  • Significant experience of accounting systems such as Viewpoint, Jobstream, NAV (Navision)
  • GCSE or equivalent standard.
  • Have or be studying towards a relevant professional qualification. Minimum of 4 years bookkeeping/ accounting experience.
  • Excellent IT skills
