Divisional Finance Director - International Expansion Services (IES)

In this role you act as the key finance business partner for the global International Expansion (IE) business division. As a sparring partner to the Global Managing Director of the Division (“DGMD”), you will ensure that the global operations, systems and business processes are aligned to achieve the operational and financial goals of the Division. Together with the Divisional Managing Director, you are focused on the realisation of the strategic goals of the International Expansion Division through making the right decisions in relation to its organic “Go to Market” strategies and any inorganic M&A activities. You also play an important part in transforming the business management process of the division into one that is driven by data and performance metric. This position is available at our office in Amsterdam.

Key Responsibilities

Working together with respective country or Business Unit (BU) heads, the role provides timely and practical advisory support to help BUs make better decisions regarding their key operational processes, investments and cost control decisions.
As most of the BU’s within the division are a result of M&A, this role will be involved with the business case of each future M&A project and integration of the new BU(s) to the Group Standard to ensure introduction of the required performance metrics.
From a financial perspective, this role is accountable for the effectiveness and cost efficiency of the financial processes within the division including, financial and management reporting, internal control, fiscal and tax compliance and cash management. 

Business / Commercial Financial Advice

  • Optimise Divisional business performance through making key strategic decisions for growth together with the DGMD. Facilitate continuous improvements in business operational and financial processes.
  • Monitor business performance of the various BUs in the division and provide proactive, independent, commercial and practical advice to help BUs continually improve performance.
  • Participate in monthly business reviews together with the DGMD and individual BUs. Give advice on continuous improvement of business performance throughout the division.
  • Ad hoc decision support analyses and business modelling; utilising capacity in Group FP&A team where appropriate.
  • Support decision making on key acquisitions with analysis and key facts and data.
  • Support the integration of acquired businesses to ensure smooth transitions with minimal disruption to business as usual.
  • Operations and Finance Functional Management.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the operations and finance processes are providing the right level of service and at the right costs to the business units in the division/region.
  • Responsible for the timeliness, quality and accuracy of the reporting by the business units within the division.
  • Responsible for ensuring that business units within the division are compliant with Group finance and internal control policies and external reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Working closely with the Group Finance team, provide guidance on treasury and tax matters at the entities within the division; working closely with the MDs and local FDs to ensure adequate processes and procedures are in right places as appropriate.

Qualifications and other requirements

  • Minimum 15 years working experience with a majority experienced in the  international expansion industry
  • Direct operation experience in jurisdictions of the division
  • Experience in multi-unit finance functional leadership roles
  • Strong commercial outlooks and proven experience in acting as an operations and  financial business partner to senior management
  • Experience in change management; from idea inception to fully implementing changes proposed would be a distinct advantage
  • Ability to deal with ambiguities and work within ill-defined boundaries and challenge status quo
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Culturally.sensitive and experienced in dealing with multiple nationalities, business cultures
  • Ability to think outside of the box, to challenge status quo, but to do so diplomatically would be a distinct advantage
  • Qualification: solid degree in any discipline or MBA; CPA, or CIMA qualified would be a distinct advantage
  • Language: Fluent English, and local language of one of the jurisdictions of the division/region
